Film Shooting in Austin

Nowadays Austin is considered to be as one of the best suitable places for film shooting. And also a lot of filmmakers come from this city in most cases thanks to radio-Television-Film Department of the University of Texas. This department can be considered as very good film school.
Graduate students of the UT decided to create the own Austin film festival – CinemaTexas.  The winners have the possibility to show their film Director’s Guild in Los Angeles, because this organization considers Cinema Texan as real recognized festival.
The UTFI (University of Texas Film Institute) was formed in 2003. This establishment permits students to create their movies in accordance to the latest technologies in the sphere of movies. And as it cooperated with Burnt Orange Productions, students can participate in shooting of big full-length films.
Those filmmakers, who don’t want to spend a lot of time at UT, choose AustinFilmWorks, 14-weeks course which ate taught by former UT professor Steve Mims. When Robert Rodriguez couldn’t enter the UT, he enrolled to Mims’s courses and then he said that those courses helped him very much in his career.
In the 1980-ies local filmmaker Richard Linklater, creator of famous hit “Slacker” helped to organize non-profit educational establishment which is called Austin Film Society. Today this establishment has its own filmmaking camps for young students, organizes various discussions concerning filmmaking and proposes internships.
In the 1999 several well- known filmmakers among whom were Robert Rodriguez and Rixhard Linklater, claimed o the Austin City Council that Austin was becoming popular place for filmmaking and such industry can bring a lot of money to the city. After this claim, in the Year 2000 Austin Film Society rented old Robert Mueller airport and transformed its hangars into filmmaking studios.
The first Hollywood blockbuster which was shooting in Austin was “Miss Congeniality” with Sandra Bullock by Warner Brothers production. They used two studious during 5 months.
With such possibilities and opportunities which Austin offers, beginner filmmakers have a lot of chances to move forward in their careers.
