I Wonder what Being A Locksmith in Los Angeles is Like
A couple of months ago, I sadly managed to lock myself out of a home I had been watching while the homeowners were gone on vacation. Were their house in Los Angeles, where I reside, a willing locksmith would have been just a phone call away. But this particular house was out in the countryside, far from the city and from the willing help of a locksmith. And so, making my way to their garage and crafting my own locksmithing tools, I came back to the front door to try my hand at picking the lock. After an hour of striving, I finally gave up, admitting at length that locksmiths are definitely worth their pay.
Ever since the experience, I’ve thought extensively on what it would be like to be a locksmith in Los Angeles. As far as image goes, a person couldn’t ask for a better place to work their craft. More than that, something tells me that in Los Angeles, there are more than a fair share of homegrown locksmiths who happened to learn their trade through less than legitimate means.
From my ordeal, I started to wonder, what does a person need if they want to become a locksmith in a place like Los Angeles? Surely, it must take more than just the ability to pick someone’s lock. Maybe not. And is it done the old-fashioned way, using those tiny metal hand tools that look like they came straight from the dentist’s office? Maybe there’s some expensive machine, some kind of digital skeleton key that analyzes the lock and picks it all by itself?
Whatever the case may be, I’d love to be able to be a locksmith in LA. Something about getting a call in the early evening, showing up to a house with a handful of precision metal tools and going to work on a lock while the distressed bystanders watch in awe. It seems like the right fit for me. That’s one of the reasons why I love innovative new online entrepreneurial companies. With the options available now online, who knows. Perhaps one day, I’ll finally break down and learn those strange occupations that have always been intriguing to me, and market myself as the detective, locksmith, writer I’ve always wanted to be. I guess until then, I’ll keep dreaming.
