I Need Information On Neighborhoods In Los Angeles And Neighboring Cities.?
I’m looking to relocate in a few months from SF to LA for career purposes. I want to work in the entertainment field. But I have no idea where I’m going. Now I’m looking at 1 bedroom apartments for 800 or less. That’s what I can afford. They have some in Long beach and West LA, Van Nuys and San Pedro but these words mean nothing to me, I don’t know anything about them. Can someone fill me in on LA. Anything you want to tell me I’m listening.

I do not mean any disrespect to you, but you have to make a decision about where it is you want to live. You have already asked about the Los Angeles area, the Santa Maria area, and the East Bay area of Northern Cal.
As you know, the rule in California is, the cheaper the rents, the seedier the area, and if you are still living on a fixed income you are asking about the most expensive areas in the state.
Before you can get useful answers you must firmly decide where it is you want to live, and what you are going to do once you get there. When that happens you will have lots of people who will gladly try to assist you.

If you are in the entertainment field, you do not want to commute in L.A. by using the freeways. They suck.
If your job is in Burbank, this area is not that expensive (nearby is Warner Bros. Studio, Walt Disney Studio, NBC and close by is Universal Studio)
West Los Angeles (Culver City, Santa Monica, Westwood): SONY Studio, 20th Century Fox and several entertainment offices in Santa Monica, like HBO, MTV, etc)
Hollywood has only Paramount Studio, which is located in the heart of Hollywood, but not a neighborhood I would recommend.
A $800 1 bedroom. can be found maybe in Culver City and part of San Fernando Valley,(Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Studio City) but very unlikely in Santa Monica, nor in Beverly Hills if you job is there. Westwood area they run approx. $1000 to 1400 for a 1 b/b, in a nice building.
Forget about Long Beach and San Pedro. Over an hour drive during rush hours and no entertainment business there anyway.

The rent in LA and OC has quadrupled in recent years. You can get a studio apartment for $800 and up. One bedrooms are $975 to $1,100 a month. The closer you get to the coast, the higher the rent is. Especially Malibu and Santa Monica. I would stay inland as much as possible. You can rent a room for $500-600 a month. You need to be near the studios for auditioning and acting classes. Such as Burbank, Glendale, Hollywood and Studio City. The rent there is higher than most. Look into Long Beach and Downtown LA. Maybe nearby cities like Montebello, Carson or South Gate will have cheaper rent. (Bedroom communities. Not a lot going on except gangs). You can commute by freeway or public transportation, like the Metro Rail. http://www.mta.net. Visit the LA Travel and Tourism website. Also rent.com. Visit the Auto Club of Southern CA. Do some research before you come out here. Good luck!
