Why Is The Public Education System So Flawed Here In La?
Mass illiteracy, a 50% drop-out rate; just why is public school the very-last priority? Seems like anybody who is anybody enrolls their kids in private-school.
I have an education that is considerably better in general, than a public school education in Los Angeles, and I attended a Canadian public school, nothing fancy just a run-of-the-mill, average K-12. I notice in my correspondence that my homies have far-more words that they use and know the meaning of, better grammar, and they have the sustained ability to communicate thoughts and abstract ideas, without loosing interest. People here are always rush: rush: rush: just into meeting and satisfying their immediate needs at this moment, without a perspicacious approach. In other words, people here are deep into the rat-race, and they can’t see beyond it.
No offense; that is my opinion.

It’s not the school system. It’s the students (and parents) . We’ve all heard the old expression, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”
You can provide a proper education, but if you have a large number of students (and parents) who don’t make education a priority, in the end, there’s not a lot that can be done.
Interesting, I worked with a teacher from Saskatchewan who states that his students, at a Hollywood based middle school, are much better behaved than his previous Canadian students.

The teacher’s union in L.A. has such a strangle hold on contracts, rules, regulations and the like, that no one can do much. You’d have to disband the union and start from scratch.
Personally, I think public education is a mess in CA as well as in the USA in general. We need to rethink how we approach education and pay scales of teachers as well as how we evaluate them.

because most people in LA are mainly here to gain image and popularity or just to hang out with friends (mainly in high school).. believe me i attended public schools in LA all my life, starting from preschool.. in high school, it get’s worse.. well in MY high school all the guys were into being the hardest people in school and unfortunately i was one of them.. the girls are just all about how pretty they think they look and image.. im not saying ALL of them are like that.. but i say about 95% of them are. seriously.. 50% drop out and the rest just graduate then start working at some low dead end job.. all 95% of us had a ghetto mentality and just couldn’t snap out of it.. i bet ANYTHING if there were no such thing as ghetto thinking and what-not. that 50% drop out rate would be as low as 5%. and that 5% being you really REALLY gotta have no life to drop out.
